Neil Young - Fork In The Road

May have made a wrong turn, but the journey has some fulfilling moments

It would seem he had driving and road trips on his mind quite a bit when writing the lyrics for his latest release Fork In The Road. I'm not just saying that because of the title of the album here are a few titles of songs so you understand my point: Fuel Line, Behind The Wheel, Off The Road, and Hit The Road. Along with the title song Fork In The Road that comprises more than half of the album. It is only ten songs and runs about 36 minutes. In this case I think it is probably best. I have to say that I expected a lot more and was a bit disappointed because I have been a huge fan of Neil Young ever since my dad first showcased his Harvest record when I was a kid.

I was also looking forward to hearing this album since I heard some of the low quality bootlegs from his tour in 2008 where he first played some of these songs. Unfortunately for me I think I may have already heard the ones that were the best and the lo-fi version is almost preferable as I think they sounded a bit better with the raw energy that live performances offer. Although this album isn't one of Neil Young's best productions there are a few good songs making it a worthwhile listen like Johnny Magic and the beautifully eloquent acoustic gem Light A Candle.
