Free guitar lessons online with Jamorama.
I am going to do something a little different today. Normally I write music reviews based on the latest album coming out, but this past weekend I stumbled across something that I think is very worthy of a review on this site, especially because I know many music fans are also people who wish they could actually pick up and play an instrument. Some wish to join or even start their own band while others would just like to around the camp fire playing their favorite tunes. Well what I ran across this weekend is something I think many of you would be interested in. It is basically a website that offers free guitar lessons online. The website has been put together by Ben Edwards and does a very nice job of tailoring the details for the beginners. Now the reason I bring this up is I actually play guitar and have played in a few bands in the past and I continue to write and play to this day so I think I have a bit of understanding as to what it takes to learn to play guitar and some of the necessary steps one must take to really 'get it.' However, at he same time I am not much of a teacher and I always have people coming up to me asking me to teach them to play guitar. Sure, I can show them the basic chords, but as soon as I start going into music theory I start to get those blank stares that are basically saying, "Forget I asked, I just wanted to learn Smoke on the Water or [insert their favorite song here]" In fact that is how I stumbled across Ben Edwards in the first place. My daughter came up to me asking for some tips as she wanted to learn a specific song and as soon as I started explaining some basic music theory to her I realized I had lost her. Thankfully we took to the internet to see if we could find her some help. After searching around for quite awhile I found Mr. Edwards and noticed he has put together a very nice package of beginner guitar lessons and what makes it even nicer is it can all be done from the comfort of your own home since all of the guitar lessons are online. Another bonus to being able to take guitar lessons online is that you are not forced to go to a specific teacher or music shop at a specific time. You can do it all at your own pace and on top of that you have the ability to go over and over the past tutorials you have already completed to make sure you really grasp what you have been taught before moving on. A real benefit at Jamorama is that you can sign up for his site for free and receive some free guitar lessons and then decide if his teaching style is right for you before you pay for more lessons.
