Observe and Report
Jody Hill, who wrote and directed "The Foot Fist Way," tried for an encore performance, with "Observe and Report," but fell just short of a repeat performance. "Observe and Report" has all of the cast from his first picture, plus comedic actors Seth Rogen and Anna Faris, as well as actor Ray Liota, but it still did not work quite as well as the Tae Kwon Do comedy. It is not a poorly prepared and played comedy, it is that it is on the leading edge of pure raunch, and these pictures have to hit just right to make the better grade.
Comparatively, this movie is better acted with much higher production values than "The Foot Fist Way," and is just as raunchy, if one can believe it; but with all that irreverence on the proverbial film stage, it just does not measure up to Jody Hill's last film. Anna Faris is underused, Seth Rogen is fine in his role (lately, I haven't expected much). There is some humor in the role of the running penis, with a naked man attached to it, and yet, I still was not that impressed, even though the picture, mercifully, only occupied 86 minutes of my time.
Maybe in Jody's next picture, I will not expect so much, and hopefully, I will be pleasantly surprised.
Rated R. Released on DVD September 22, 2009.
